Virtual YA Book Club: September Selection
YEAH! I’m so excited to kick off the Virtual YA Book Club with such a great group of readers. Thank you all for voting! Based on everyone’s votes, I lined up our reading selections for September–December 2012. You can check out the schedule here.
The most votes went to Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver and will be our September selection for YA BC.
Please read it by September 15. On September 15th, I’ll post up a few thoughts and some questions, and we’ll discuss. If enough of us are on Twitter, we can even try to discuss it through a Twitter chat.
If you don’t own a copy of Before I Fall, I suggest reserving a copy from your local library (my copy is on hold right now), purchasing a copy from an indie bookstore, or ordering it online from Powell’s Books.
SEPTEMBER 2012
BEFORE I FALL BY LAUREN OLIVER (READ BY: SEPTEMBER 15)
Premise (from Lauren Oliver’s website)
What if you had only one day to live? What would you do? Who would you kiss? And how far would you go to save your own life?
Samantha Kingston has it all: the world’s most crush-worthy boyfriend, three amazing best friends, and first pick of everything at Thomas Jefferson High—from the best table in the cafeteria to the choicest parking spot. Friday, February 12, should be just another day in her charmed life.
Instead, it turns out to be her last.
Then she gets a second chance. Seven chances, in fact. Reliving her last day during one miraculous week, she will untangle the mystery surrounding her death—and discover the true value of everything she is in danger of losing.
A little bit about the author (from her bio on her website)
I pursued literature and philosophy at the University of Chicago, and then moved back to New York to attend NYU’s MFA program in creative writing. I simultaneously began working at Penguin Books, in a young adult division called Razorbill, and while there, I started work on Before I Fall. I left in 2009 to pursue writing full-time, and now I happily work in my pajamas every day.
GREAT pick, I’m excited to start!
Me too, Lauren. It’s exciting to finally talk about books I love reading.
I’m really happy with this choice, I’ve had it on my shelf since Lauren Oliver visited Aus in March so this will give me a reason to read it!

Great. You’ll have to tell us about her visit! Happy reading!
