How You Can Join the Stop Asian Hate Movement

When Arianna Davis, the Senior Director of Editorial & Strategy at OprahMag.com, asked me to write about the #StopAsianHate movement, I said yes. This is the third piece that Arianna and I have worked on about anti-Asian attacks. I worked quickly. I reached out to Asian American celebrities who’ve been very vocal about the movement for their comments. I tuned into a Clubhouse talk with Daniel Dae Kim, Lisa Ling, Van Jones, and took fervent notes. In the course of writing the story, I couldn’t help but cry over the images and words I saw about what was happening to Asian seniors. I tweeted about my sadness and anger about writing a THIRD story, and it went viral. I am overwhelmed with the positive support, and floored that writers, journalists, and editors I admire are now following me.

Thanks to Arianna Davis, Elena Nicolaou, and Brie Schwartz for the edits to make it shine. Thanks to Stop AAPI Hate for the continued hard work that they do. And thank you to Henry Golding and Simu Liu for taking the time to write such thoughtful responses to my questions.
