On March 18, the digital director for OprahMag.com asked me if I would write about why “Chinese Virus” is racist. It was a topic on my mind. I said yes. It was due that day. My husband and I are both working at home with our twin preschoolers. I wasn’t sure how I’d complete the piece, but I knew it was important and it mattered to me.
By 5pm, I turned in a draft. My editor did fantastic edits (and had given me a great outline as a framework for the piece). The next day at 9am, the story went live.
While I’ve gotten trolls for the story, I know that raising awareness is what matters right now.
